New Fire Retardant Fabrics 'CARBONEX(R)' to Improve Safety Standards

Chapman Racing Heads, the CNC cylinder head powerhouse, has developed their second tier of proprietary 100% Carbon Fiber fire retardant fabrics for the auto racing industry under the Carbonex(R) brand label.  Chapman also has materials designed for fresh air purification systems specializing in the removal of 'hazardous agents in the air,' such as carbon monoxide.

After 2 years of research and development, Chapman's exclusive manufacturing process now produces Carbon Fiber in Fabrics, felts and knits for driving suits, pit crew apparatus, seat covers, gloves, shoes, undergarments and thermal insulation / heat barrier applications.

Compared to other fire retardant fabrics on the market, Carbonex does not burn, char, ignite or shrink when exposed to flames exceeding 2600 degrees F.  Carbonex also has the highest 'Limit of Oxygen Index' for any fire retardant apparel fabric available.  When exposed to heat or flame, Carbonex will carbonize, causing the individual fibers to expand, eliminating any oxygen content.

Chapman's goal while developing this new material has been two-part.  First, to offer the safest fire retardant fabrics to drivers and crews to help eliminate some of the severe burn injuries over the years.  Secondly, to offer thermal barrier performance fabrics, creating additional horsepower through thermal conductivity insulation.  Reducing cockpit heat has also been a focus point.
